A Wake-Up Call on Security: Why We Acted Before It Was Too Late.

For a long time, I believed what many leaders in our industry quietly believe: a major security incident won’t happen to us. We invest heavily in technology, we employ capable people, and we operate within a highly regulated environment. Surely that was enough.
I was wrong.
It wasn’t a breach that changed my thinking it was a conversation. Through working with James, I was forced to look at our security posture not as a checklist exercise, but as a living, evolving discipline. What became immediately clear was that while we had controls in place, we lacked a truly cohesive and current security overview that reflected how we actually operate today.
James brought an approach that was both pragmatic and deeply informed by real-world experience. He didn’t just point out gaps; he helped us understand why they existed, how they could realistically be exploited, and most importantly how to address them without disrupting the business.
Under his guidance, our Security Standard Operating Procedures were not simply updated; they were refreshed and revitalised. Legacy assumptions were challenged, documentation was clarified, and responsibilities were aligned with how teams genuinely work rather than how policies once assumed they did. The result is a set of SOPs that are usable, relevant, and trusted by the people who rely on them day to day.
What impressed me most was James’s depth of knowledge combined with his ability to communicate clearly at every level of the organisation from technical teams to senior leadership. He understands security not just as a technical problem, but as a business risk, and that perspective made all the difference.
I can say, without hesitation, that I am extremely happy with the outcome of his work. More than that, I have real confidence in our improved security posture and our ability to respond effectively should the unexpected occur.
Needless to say, I have retained James’s services. In an environment where complacency is the greatest risk of all, having someone who challenges assumptions and strengthens foundations is invaluable.
